Pre-order digital copies of Age of Empires IV on Steam or the Microsoft Store.
The Digital Deluxe Edition can only be purchased via Steam and costs $79.99/PS69.99. The base game is included, along with a lot of digital bonus content such as monuments and coat of arms.
The standard edition can be purchased on Steam or the Microsoft Store for $59.99/PS49.99. It will also be available via Game Pass PC which will enable you to free download Age of Empires IV.
The Microsoft Store states that pre-ordering any edition will get you the upcoming Age of Empires II Definitive Edition expansion Dawn of the Dukes free of charge.

Age of Empires 4 Civils
Age of Empires IV will launch with eight civilizations. These were drawn from medieval societies in Europe, Asia, and beyond. These are the eight civs:
Chinese
Abbasid Dynasty
French
Holy Roman Empire
Age of Empires 4’s civilizations will be more asymmetrical. For example, the English will play and look more like a traditional Age of Empires civilization. However, the Mongols will have more unique mechanics, such as migrating structures, which will make them feel quite different. While the civilizations of other countries will likely be tailored to different scales, there will be some similarities. To keep the core combat triangle intact, every civ has a generic pike and ranged unit, as well as mounted units.
Also, civilizations represent cultures at a higher historical authenticity level. This is a way of recognizing the fact that different entities have controlled the same areas of the world throughout history, even within Age of Empire IV.
While the English and French may feel all-encompassing with the countries they give their names to, the Delhi Sultanate was only in control of parts of South Asia during the medieval period and the Abbasid Caliphate wasn’t the only dominant power of the middle east. Microsoft responded to player concerns about regional representation by confirming that future cultures and civilizations will be released after launch to allow players to explore the same area from different angles.
The Civ design extends to the visuals, atmosphere and sound. Architecture will change over time. However, the language used by other NPCs will also change to reflect the cultural evolution of these societies during the rough period covered by Age of Empires.
Age of Empires 4 Campaigns
Age of Empires 4 will feature four campaigns with a total of 35 missions. These are the four campaigns that have been confirmed:
Norman Conquest (English civ)
100 Years War (French Civil, we think)
Mongols
The Rise of Moscow (Rus. civ)
Age of Empires IV campaigns will not be limited to one historical figure. They will cover multiple generations and provide a historical context in a documentary-style format.
Adam Isgreen says there will be three hours of footage to supplement campaign missions. A lot of it will use live footage from real-world locales with superimposed graphics to match the game’s style, but they also have other video content that they aren’t talking about.
Age of Empires4 Gameplay
3D will be the norm, with higher elevations and more forest-like environments, which will make it easier for units to use ambush tactics. Procedural maps will also be available.
The maximum number of units per player is 200. This will allow you to have up to 1600 units fighting for the same area in a multiplayer eight-player match.
The campaign will feature hero-like units, but general skirmish gameplay won’t include hero units. This is excepted by the Mongols who have a unit called ‘Mongol Khan’ that acts in a similar way to a hero-unit but isn’t as powerful as one.
It has been confirmed that the ages are: Dark Age (the Fedal Age), the Castle Age and the Imperial Age. Age of Empires 4 has been designed to incorporate the Age of Empires 3’s age-up mechanics.
